Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has declared that it will reintroduce the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) on 28 July 2025, with intentions to provide up to 10,000 requests to prospective sponsors.
IRCC states that they will approve up to 10,000 complete requests for sponsorship under the Parents and Grandparents Program in 2025. Starting from 28 July 2025, and over the course of about two weeks, IRCC will forward invitations to apply (ITA) to prospective sponsors who are interested.
The Parents and Grandparents Program is among Canada’s major family reunification programs. It permits nationals and permanent residents to support their parents and grandparents in obtaining permanent residence in the nation.
It provides an indefinite route to unite families, distinct from temporary visit visas.
The department revealed this in a statement posted on its webpage on Wednesday.
QUALIFICATIONS LIMITED TO OLD CANDIDATES
Based on IRCC, this year’s acceptance will not approve new applications of interest. Rather, it will concentrate exclusively on persons who presented their sponsorship plan in 2020 and have not yet been requested in past rounds.
“Anybody who presented an interest in a support form in 2020 but has yet to get an invitation to apply is motivated to check their email account from 2020. They are required to ensure that they review their spam folders as well,” they revealed.
Requests are required to be presented online via the Permanent Residence Portal of the Representative Permanent Residence Portal, regardless of whether candidates are using a delegate.
SUPER VISA OPTION FOR PEOPLE NOW PICKED
Candidates who do not get an Invitation under the 2025 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) still have another choice to reunite with their families in Canada, with Canada’s Super Visa.
This long-term, multiple-entry visa is valid for up to one decade. It permits parents or grandparents of Canadian nationals and permanent residents to remain in Canada for up to five years for each visit.
“The people who were not requested to make an application this year may make use of having their parents and grandparents make an application through the super visa program, a multiple-entry visa valid for up to 1 year. Super visa holders can remain in Canada for 5 years for each visit, with the choice to prolong their stay by up to 24 months without exiting the country.
