NEW UK CITIZENSHIP TEST LAWS: E-VISA HOLDERS TO PRESENT SHARE CODE

Are you preparing for the Life in the UK Test or any other United Kingdom citizenship-related test? This update is for you. The Home Office has introduced new identity confirmation laws, and if you are an e-visa holder, there is an important new step you are required to follow.

This article will guide you through everything you should know and the steps to prevent being turned away at the test center.

WHAT IS CHANGING?

Previously, a lot of applicants could come with a passport or Biometric Residence Permit card. However, with the United Kingdom immigration system highly moving online, there is currently a compulsory digital identity confirmation procedure for e-Visa holders.

If you have an e-visa, you are now required to develop a share code to ascertain your identity on test day.

MEANING OF N E-VISA

This is your online immigration status, which supersedes a physical visa document or card. If you have made an application via the EU Settlement Scheme, used the UK immigration ID check app, or obtained a digital status verification, you may own one.

APPROVED IDENTIFICATION ON TEST DAY

To participate in your test, you are required to come with one of the following original and authentic recognition documents, and the exact one you utilized to schedule your exams:

  • Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) (valid for 18 months after expiration).
  • Biometric Residence Card (BRC) (can be used for up to 18 months after it expires).
  • EU/EEA/Swiss National Identity Card
  • Passport
  • Travel document

Note: photocopies, screenshots, or expired IDs are not accepted.

WHAT E-VISA HOLDER SHOULD DO

If you are using an e-visa, you will not need to submit a physical document. Therefore instead, you will be required to:

  1. Check into your UKVI account
  2. Develop your share code
  3. Offer this code at the examination center to ascertain your identity and status.

Hint: If your social media or test account is personal, you may be required to directly forward a message with your code to the organizers or follow other specific directions provided at the time of booking.

DO NOT RISK A SKIPPED TEST

If your ID does not match your scheduling information or if you fail to provide the accurate documentation, you will not be permitted to take the test. This implies that time will be wasted, funds will be spent, and your route to United Kingdom citizenship will be prospectively delayed.

FINAL CHECKLIST BEFORE TEST DAY

  • Verify that your booking name matches your ID.
  • Ensure your ID is authentic and original.
  • If you have an e-visa, log in to the UKVI account and receive your share code.
  • Come with the same document you used to enroll.
